Client: Tesco Stores Limited
Authority: Test Valley Borough Council
We are leading a multi-disciplinary team on a proposed Tesco foodstore in Romsey, Hampshire. Our role in the submission of the planning application included the preparation of a Planning and Retail Assessment, the co-ordination of the Environmental Impact Assessment, and preparing impact assessment chapters on Heritage and Socio-Economic Impacts.
Our Planning and Retail Assessment identifies that many residents living in and around Romsey currently travel elsewhere to do their food shopping and demonstrates that the proposed store would clawback trade to Romsey. In support of this assessment we undertook research into the effects of edge-of-centre and out-of-centre foodstores on the health of town centres. This provides evidence that vibrant town centres can co-exist with foodstores.
Our Heritage Assessment considers the effect of the proposed foodstore on the listed Broadlands Park and Gardens, the Romsey Conservation Area and other nearby listed buildings. Following English Heritage guidance, this assessment considers how the proposed development would effect the elements of the historic environment which are of heritage significance.
